This is a recipe for Sweet & Sour Pork given to my mother in the 1970′s by one of her work friends who was from Sri Lanka, l don’t know where she got it from or how original it is, but it is the sweet & sour pork recipe my family has always made and enjoyed and l prefer it to the Chinese red sauce style sweet and sour pork dish at Chinese restaurants.
Sweet & Sour Pork
- 500 grams belly pork
- 2 teaspoons of oil
- 1/3 cup of water
- 1 teaspoon of corn flour
- 2 teaspoons of brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 2 teaspoon of soy sauce
- 3/4 cup of pineapple pieces
- 2 teaspoon of diced onions
- 1/4 cup of sliced green or red capsicum
Chop pork into cubes fry till brown add water
Mix cornflour, sugar,salt, pineapple juice ,vinegar and soy sauce.
Add to pork simmer for 10 minutes
Add pineapple pieces, onions and capsicum
Simmer for a further 10 minutes serve with rice or noodles.
